SkinTyte is a treatment mode delivered through Sciton's BBL-family handpieces (currently described by Sciton as 'powered by BBL HERO'), using a broader band of infrared light rather than the shorter wavelengths used for pigment or vessels. Instead of targeting a specific colored structure in the skin, the infrared light gently heats the deeper layer of skin (the dermis) while a cooled sapphire surface keeps the skin surface comfortable, with the aim of encouraging the skin's own collagen-producing response over time. It is intended for mild to moderate skin laxity, or looseness, rather than for deep wrinkles or scars, and Sciton describes it as suitable for all skin types. Treatment is done as a series, with sessions spaced roughly four to eight weeks apart. SkinTyte has been on the market for over a decade; a national television segment featured it as early as May 2010, though this research could not confirm the exact year Sciton first introduced it or its specific FDA clearance record.
