Galderma
Restylane®
hyaluronic acid dermal filler collection
Restylane is a family of injectable hyaluronic acid fillers now made by Galderma. It was originally developed by the Swedish company Q-Med AB, which Galderma acquired in a deal announced in December 2010. Like other hyaluronic acid fillers, Restylane products are gels made from a sugar molecule the skin already produces, injected beneath the surface of the skin to smooth lines or restore lost volume. According to the FDA's own approval summary, Restylane was first sold in the European Union in September 1996, and the original US formula received FDA approval in December 2003 for mid-to-deep dermal injection to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds. Individual products in the Restylane line use one of two Galderma gel technologies, called NASHA and XpresHAn, which change how firm or how flexible the gel is once injected, so different products in the family are suited to different areas of the face, from precise lines to areas that move a lot, such as the lips.
