MOXI™

MOXI is a laser handpiece that uses a wavelength of 1927 nanometers, delivered in a 'fractional' pattern, meaning the laser treats many tiny, evenly spaced spots of skin rather than the whole surface at once, leaving the surrounding tissue untouched to speed healing. Unlike lasers built to target pigment specifically, this wavelength is absorbed mainly by water in the skin's cells, which is why Sciton markets it as suitable for all skin tones and usable year-round, including in patients with more melanin who need to be more cautious with pigment-seeking lasers. It is aimed at early, superficial concerns, such as uneven skin tone, early sun damage and rough texture, and Sciton positions it as a lighter option than its more aggressive resurfacing lasers. The underlying device, described in FDA records as the Joule 1927nm Laser System, received FDA 510(k) clearance on March 6, 2019, for use in dermatological procedures requiring coagulation of soft tissue, treatment of actinic keratosis, and treatment of benign pigmented lesions such as lentigos (age spots), solar lentigos (sun spots) and ephelides (freckles). MOXI reached the market as a named handpiece the following year, launched as part of Sciton's mJOULE platform.
