JUVÉDERM® Collection of Fillers

The JUVÉDERM® Collection is a line of injectable fillers made by Allergan Aesthetics, now part of AbbVie following AbbVie's acquisition of Allergan, completed in May 2020. Each product in the collection is a smooth gel made from hyaluronic acid, a sugar molecule the skin already contains to help keep it hydrated and full; it is produced here through bacterial fermentation and then cross-linked into a gel that a provider injects beneath the skin. The original JUVÉDERM formula received FDA approval in June 2006 for injection into the mid-to-deep layer of skin to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds. Over time, additional products carrying the JUVÉDERM name were developed and separately approved for other uses, such as adding volume to the cheeks. The individual products within the collection differ mainly in how the hyaluronic acid is formulated and cross-linked, using one of two Allergan gel technologies, which changes how firm or soft the finished gel feels and how it behaves once injected, so a provider can choose a formula suited to a particular area of the face.
