Belotero Balance®

Belotero Balance is a hyaluronic acid filler made by Merz Aesthetics, the same company behind Radiesse and Belotero Volume. Like other hyaluronic acid fillers, it is a gel made from a sugar molecule already found in skin, produced by bacterial fermentation and injected to smooth lines and folds. Merz manufactures it using a cross-linking process the company calls Cohesive Polydensified Matrix (CPM), intended to let the gel blend into the surrounding tissue rather than sit as a distinct lump. The FDA approved Belotero Balance in November 2011 for injection into the mid-to-deep dermis to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds; a version containing lidocaine, an anesthetic added to reduce discomfort during injection, was approved in August 2019, and the FDA later approved it for improving hollowing under the eyes in September 2023. Within the Belotero line, Balance is formulated for finer lines and more superficial placement, such as around the mouth and under the eyes, which distinguishes it from Belotero Volume, formulated for deeper placement and larger volume loss in the midface.
